The PMS, based on FMC’s UCOS & ION Enterprise oversees the electrical distribution within the facilities to ensure stability of supply. The PMS interfaces to intelligent devices within:

– MV/LV Switchboards

– Power Transformers

– Static & Dynamic UPS

– Emergency Generators

VL is a specialist sub-contractor to SMB/CSI for the M+W designed PMS System. The VL scope of work includes equipment supply, systems configuration, integration, and on-site testing and commissioning.

Project Details

Power Management System (PMS)

The system is built around UCOS SCADA platform and ION Enterprise as the power analysis tool.

The UCOS system utilizes industry standard PC and PLC I/O, providing complete solution for process control and graphical human-machine interface. Operators are alerted to all abnormal conditions such as trips and alarms. The interfaces to all intelligent devices are made via the distributed ICM which is an intelligent multi-ports and multi-protocol communication manager. Meanwhile, the ION Enterprise Server provides very detail power quality analysis for all ION meters and SEPAM digital protection relay installed in both MV and LV switchboards.

Challenge + Solution

Fast and accurate information – In order to manage the electrical systems effectively, the operators have to be given prompt and accurate information about the systems and equipment status. To this end, the PMS is configured comprising of UCOS for SCADA function and Ion Enterprise as a power analysis tool. This division of functions allows supervisory control without the burden of detail analysis for events (SoE) and waveform and vice versa on the client server architecture. This configuration calls for the intelligent electronic meters such as DPR/PQM/etc to provide either dual ports or have to allow for multiple connections using the same or different protocols.
